Designed originally for Luftwaffe pilots for traction on slippery metal aircraft decks, these flat-soled boots quickly became popular with Fallschirmjägers as well, for crawling out on the wings and fuselages during the early development of skydiving. After this, they became synonymous with the bravado of these early pioneers of avaition combat. They were also considered by some as being a better land shoe. Stemming no doubt from the popularity of the Cowboy and American Indian stories in pre-war Germany and their use of moccasins. All our combat boots are EEs which are 1/8" wider than Ds for added comfort and to resist pressure or even injury under combat conditions. If you are a D consider thicker socks or even an insert cushion.
